QuickMail is an easy-to-use electronic mail package for two or more Macintoshes® on AppleTalk™ networks. It does much more than simple message exchange; providing sophisticated “store and forward“ technology, linking networks over modems, spanning gateways and bridges on internets, reaching those without computers, exchanging messages and files with electronic services, collecting data … seamlessly. It can even be remotely accessed from any computer.
The package includes QuickMail, QM Administrator‚Ñ¢ QuickInit‚Ñ¢, QM Server‚Ñ¢, QM Forms‚Ñ¢, QM Remote‚Ñ¢ QuickInstall‚Ñ¢ and Vaccine‚Ñ¢.
QuickMail and QuickInit: The desk accessory and the Init work together as the user software. If necessary, about half of the user software can be stored on a file server if one is present. The QuickMail DA is usable even when the machine is not on the network.
Send mail by pressing the QuickSend‚Ñ¢ user-definable hot key, or by selecting the QuickMail DA
(or definable QuickMail hot key) and selecting a custom form.
Users can create personal address books and groups from MailCenter directories of QuickMail users. Groups may be contained within groups. A public “Bulletin Board” is available to everyone on the local network.
Mail is handled seamlessly and routed automatically through AppleTalk zones, across wide area networks and to other information services via software bridges and gateways, without human intervention.
Users can attach up to sixteen files and the contents of the Clipboard to messages.
Mail can be sorted by Priority, Read/Unread, Subject, Sender or Date Sent. Messages also can be filed in
folders created and named by the user.
The Mail Log lets users see when mail sent is received and find out what happened to it. They also can retrieve or “unsend” mail.
Users are notified of mail arrival visually and audibly.
A beep or sound will be heard and the Apple icon in the menu bar will alternate with a QuickMail icon. Users also can set up a QuicKeys‚Ñ¢ sequence to be executed when new mail arrives. (A demo version of QuicKeys is provided with QuickMail.)
Conference and QuickConference‚Ñ¢ are available for private conversations or public conferences. A transcript is generated automatically and may be saved in text files or copied to the Clipboard. To avoid interruptions, timed privacy is available. It displays an answer-back message and amount of time remaining.
QM Forms: This “Draw”-type program makes custom mail forms. Design elements include fonts, boxes, icons, lines, scrolling text fields, check boxes and default entries (date, time, text) with multiple object manipulation. Forms can be imported into databases, making QuickMail a data collection program. Forms may be previewed as they would appear on a Macintosh, PC or as text.
QM Server: The Mail Server is the computer where messages are stored in MailCenters. QM Server moves messages (and files) in and out of MailCenters and will “store and forward” messages from one Mail Server to another. QM Server will run in the background, even on an AppleShare™ server. It does not interfere with network functions or require a dedicated machine. A Macintosh Plus or greater with a hard drive is required for the computer used as the Mail Server.
QM Administrator: QM Administrator divides a network into manageable, separately configurable MailCenters. It maintains user lists for each MailCenter and can generate printed directories of all users on an internet. Optionally, it tracks usage on each MailCenter.
QuickMail, QuickForms. QuickInit, QM Server, QM Administrator, QuickInstall, QM Remote, QuickSend, QuickConference and QuicKeys are trademarks of CE Software, Inc. Apple and Macintosh are registered trademarks of Apple Computer Inc. AppleTalk, AppleShare and MultiFinder are trademarks of Apple Computer Inc. MCI Mail is a trademark of MCICommunications. GEnie is a trademark of General Electric Information Services Corporation. CompuServe is a trademark of CompuServe Information Services, Inc. TOPS is a trademark of Sun Microsystems. IBM is a registered trademark of Interational Business Machines Corporation. QM Administrator communicates with modems so any communications package can access mail. Access is provided directly to a specific MailCenter which is faster than an async hookup and has better security. Callers are not given access to servers or other network devices.
Standard XModem commands allow access to enclosed files. QM Administrator talks to QM Remote (see below).
It permits seamless transfer of mail to external mail
systems such as CompuServe, GEnie and MCI Mail.
The “software bridge” (or gateway) design allows easy extensibility by third parties.
QM Administrator is not limited to mail systems. It can talk to printers, fax modems, databases, and more.
QM Administrator can run in the background under MultiFinder‚Ñ¢ or as a concurrent application on an AppleShare server.
Two software bridges are included with QuickMail:
The Telecom Bridge provides a flexible scripting language that allows exchange of mail with any TTY call-up service. Full documentation is included to write scripts to access other call-up services. Scripts are provided for CompuServe, GEnie, MCI Mail and iNet.
The Printer Bridge directs messages to paper, giving people without computers access to E-mail. PICT and EPSF formats are supported for creating letterheads. It also can position the address on a message for insertion into window envelopes.
QM Remote: Though any terminal program can access QuickMail, QM Remote is more cost-effective (for long distance charges), less time-consuming and easier to use.
Easy configuration: Specify modem speed, port connected to and phone number to call. QM Remote figures out the rest. After connecting, QM Remote shows all mail waiting, and will receive, send and delete messages.
Mail received appears exactly as it would in QuickMail, including graphics on the forms. Messages can be printed, saved in QM file format, or converted to text. QM Remote allows reading and replying to messages while still online. QM Remote will also examine previously saved mail.
QM Remote can create new messages, send QuickMail- created messages and transmit files or applications as attachments. QuickMail is not required for new messages.
QM Remote comes preconfigured for most common modem equipment. Advanced users with more complex needs can customize QM Remote for their hardware.
A Macintosh 512KE or greater with a Hayes-compatible modem is required.
Vaccine: A program that helps detect and prevent viruses is included free with all CE Software products.
Extensibility:
Special software bridges and gateways are available from CE Software and third parties to extend the power of QuickMail. (See QuickMail Connectivity fact sheet.) The Inside QuickMail‚Ñ¢ package is available to aid programmers in the creation of custom bridges and gateways.
QuickMail PC will allow IBM® PCs and compatible users to exchange QuickMail with Mac users on the same network.
Documentation:
The package includes an E-Mail Primer explaining the benefits and uses of electronic mail. The comprehensive guide to setting up and installing the QuickMail network will remove all guesswork. The Administrator manual helps a custodian maintain and expand a QuickMail network. The User manual, an easy-to-follow tutorial, will have users taking advantage of QuickMail‘s productivity-enhancing features within the first few hours.
Help:
On-Screen Help is provided. It can be context
sensitive and is activated quickly in several ways. A troubleshooting section is also provided in the Administrator manual.
Support:
Support is provided free to all registered users. The
Support Department is available from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Central Time, Monday through Friday,

OVERVIEW
QUICKMAIL‚Ñ¢
The New Generation Electronic Mail Program.
AMERICAN BUSINESS CHAOS.
Did you ever miss an important call because your receptionist thought you were busy?
Did you ever miss a call because you were already on the phone?
How about messages? Have you ever sent a memo only to have people claim they never got it (or lost it)?
Here's another scenario: you have a confidential memo to send to someone at another office… the FAX won't work because everyone can read that. Mail is too slow. Now what?
Did you ever want everyone in your office to be notified of something immediately? Running up and down the halls can tire you out.
Does any of this seem familiar to you?
These things happen to all of us as a part of doing business. But it could be a lot better.
YOU COULD BE USING QUICKMAIL.
You won't miss calls while you're on the phone. Your Macintosh can notify you without loud intrusions.
No more “lost,” undelivered, unreadable, or late messages.
QuickMail delivers structured, reliable information and even gives you a delivery receipt!
And, how about that confidential memo to the office in Chicago? Send it! It goes directly to the person you want to see it.
Is your biggest customer due in ten minutes? Do you want everyone on their best behavior? Let QuickMail notify everyone in your office, instantly.
INSTANT COMMUNICATION… NOTHING TO ADD!
Suppose you need to contact ten people in your office for a 3:00 meeting.
Typically, you'd have your receptionist call them on the intercom. If you had enough time, you might send out a memo and hope everyone got it in time. Maybe you'd waste a bunch of your time calling each of them individually. Or you could run up and down the hall howling out the meeting time (and possibly get fired!)
Here's a better alternative…
LET QUICKMAIL GET THE WORD OUT.
From the conference screen, select the ten people for your meeting. Write your message and click the
“Send” button.
They're notified… instantly.
To respond, they just type “I’ll be there,”
press “Enter” and you receive it.
You know, they know, and if you need a record, a transcript of your conference can be copied to the clipboard or saved as a text file.
WIDESPREAD MAIL WITH NO EFFORT!
From the mail screen, select a message form (one of ours or one you designed yourself). Type a message to your Industry Association about the upcoming meeting.
Click the “Send” button and your directory appears. The bulletin board is the first item, followed by groups you've defined, then individuals. You locate and select the Industry Association (a group of 30 people) and your secretary.
Thirty-one messages are sent when you press the
“Enter” key. It doesn't matter that there are 31 different locations. Your secretary's message went out over the network, some were routed through CompuServe and MCI Mail, others went to the printer (and were ready to be inserted into window envelopes) and some even went directly to other QuickMail installations.
If you can visualize that, you'll be getting really excited about now. How's that for communicating?
WHAT WILL YOU LOSE?
Telephone tag. The paper chase. Busy receptionists. Can you stand to give up all that?
Discover how quick, easy and effective it is to use QuickMail.
THINK GREAT THOUGHTS.
Think how great it would be to send a memo to another office, thousands of miles away, by clicking the recipient’s name!
QuickMail sends messages down the hall or around the world, with the click of a mouse.
Do you need someone to review several proposals before they’re sent? QuickMail lets you attach up to 16 files to a message. The recipient can look them over, make changes, attach the revised documents and send them back with a note explaining the revisions.
QuickMail provides true message management. When you amass 30 messages at the end of the day and want to deal with them later, the filing system lets you save them in folders you create. You can sort messages by subject, who sent them, priority, read/unread or time sent.
Does your company have its own memo forms? Probably. Make your mail look like Your mail. QuickMail lets you design message forms, company forms, purchase orders; whatever you require.
Do you cut and paste to the clipboard very often? It's a unique tool. It handles text, a section of a spreadsheet and graphics with equal simplicity. QuickMail enables you to attach the contents of the clipboard to any of your messages.
It doesn’t get more flexible than that.
I’VE GOT TO GO HOME NOW!
Returning to your office at the end of a long day, you find 15 messages waiting. You have to go home. Fine! Go home. But, take your Mac along. First, file all your messages in the folders you created.
At home, after dinner, read through your mail and type your replies. Send them now with Quick Remote or connect to the network tomorrow and send them. Nice, huh?
QuickMail lets you go where you want to go. Using our telecom software bridge you can contact commercial services such as MCI Mail™, CompuServe™ and GEnie™. It can also dial other QuickMail sites and deliver mail directly to people… clients, customers, associates, etc.
QuickMail is an entire message management system. One that reaches everyone, with or without computers.
GOODBYE YESTERDAY… HELLO TOMORROW!
One of the most important aspects to the success of any business is improving communication. The key is getting your messages, memos and documents from person to person and place to place quickly and accurately. QuickMail does it for you… with ease.
AND ALL THE TOMORROWS TO COME!
Does your company use a service such as CompuServe‚Ñ¢, MCI Mail‚Ñ¢ or GEnie‚Ñ¢? Does someone call in with a terminal program, get mail, then forward it to appropriate people? QuickMail can do all that automatically.
One of QuickMail’s advanced features is a scripting language, which enables a technically oriented person to access other services automatically.
If you need even more flexibility, QuickMail’s incredibly advanced design concept “Extensibility” allows programmers to write “Software Bridges” and seamlessly tie QuickMail into other software and hardware products. Interested? Ask us about
“Inside QuickMail”.
What about sending mail through FAX modems, AppleLink‚Ñ¢ or Unix‚Ñ¢ Mail? What happens when a new commercial database appears? What if you need to tie in with new or specialized hardware or software?
WHAT HAPPENS IS... QUICKMAIL GROWS WITH YOU.
QuickMail's “Extensible” design allows added capabilities. It's really a mail “engine” around which programmers are writing new applications and software bridges. QuickMail won’t grow old – it will grow with you!
WHILE OTHERS TALK OF THE FUTURE, WE DELIVER IT NOW!!
